About This Trail

Monte Sano Nature Preserve offers over 20 miles of trails on the wooded plateau above Huntsville, featuring unique geological formations, diverse habitats, and sweeping views of the Tennessee Valley. The interconnected trail system passes natural sinkholes, rock outcrops, and through forests of oak, hickory, and tulip poplar. The Natural Well Loop showcases a dramatic sinkhole that drops 50 feet into the mountain, while other trails lead to overlooks with views stretching to the distant Cumberland Plateau. The preserve connects to Monte Sano State Park, allowing for extended explorations. Spring wildflowers and fall foliage are particularly spectacular, and the higher elevation provides cooler temperatures during summer months.
