About This Trail

Following Mount Magazine’s southern rim, Mossback Ridge Trail rewards hikers with sweeping views of Blue Mountain Lake and the surrounding Ouachita Mountains. The trail traverses varied terrain from dense forest to open ridgetops where vistas extend for miles. Hawks and vultures ride thermal currents along the bluffs, and the quiet character of this less-traveled trail offers solitude rare on the busy mountain. The longer distance and moderate climbing provide a satisfying full-morning or afternoon hike.
