About This Trail

North Fork Mountain Trail traverses one of the finest ridgeline hikes in the eastern United States, following the crest of North Fork Mountain with nearly continuous views of Germany Valley, Seneca Rocks, and the Allegheny highlands. The trail passes rocky outcrops, wind-stunted pines, and through open forest along the narrow ridge. Chimney Top, a dramatic rock formation near the northern end, provides one of the most spectacular viewpoints. The exposed ridge requires attention to weather conditions, as lightning poses a real danger. This challenging trail rewards dedicated hikers with some of the finest mountain scenery in West Virginia.
