About This Trail
Following the northern edge of Mount Magazine’s flat-topped summit, this trail offers continuously spectacular views across the Arkansas River Valley. The path winds through gnarled cedars and wind-sculpted oaks, emerging repeatedly at dramatic overlooks where hawks and eagles soar on thermal updrafts below. Sunrise and sunset transform the valley into a sea of gold and shadow, making this one of the most scenic short hikes in the state. Bring binoculars for excellent raptor watching.
Getting There
From Mount Magazine State Park visitor center, follow park signs to the North Rim Trail parking area located approximately 0.5 miles north of the lodge. The trailhead is at the north end of the parking lot.
