About This Trail

Peavine Falls is Oak Mountain State Park’s signature attraction, a 65-foot waterfall cascading over rocky ledges into a scenic gorge. The trail to the falls winds through hardwood forest, crossing streams and climbing moderately before descending to the falls viewing area. After rain, the falls thunder impressively, while drier periods reveal the intricate rock formations typically hidden by the water flow. The trail is one of the park’s most popular, so early arrivals on weekends ensure a more peaceful experience. Beyond the falls, adventurous hikers can continue on connecting trails for extended explorations of the park’s ridges and valleys. This is an essential Birmingham-area hike that showcases the natural beauty hiding in Alabama’s urban fringe.
