About This Trail

The Oconee River Greenway in Milledgeville follows the scenic Oconee River through a series of connected parks, creating an urban trail corridor that blends natural beauty with recreation opportunities. The paved and natural surface paths pass through bottomland hardwood forest, open meadows, and along the river’s edge, with frequent access points and rest areas. Wildlife viewing is excellent along the river corridor, with opportunities to spot herons, kingfishers, otters, and various songbirds. The greenway connects neighborhoods to parks, making it popular with both recreational hikers and commuters. Historic sites along the route include remnants of Milledgeville’s past as Georgia’s antebellum capital. The trail continues to expand, with plans to eventually connect to the regional trail network.
