About This Trail
This segment preserves a portion of the original Natchez Trace, the ancient pathway worn into the earth by countless travelers over centuries. The sunken roadbed, eroded several feet below the surrounding forest floor, provides a tangible connection to the boatmen, soldiers, and settlers who walked this route. Interpretive markers explain the history, while the atmospheric forest creates a contemplative walking experience.
Getting There
From the Rocky Springs parking area at Natchez Trace Parkway milepost 54.8, follow signs to the Old Trace segment. The trail connects Rocky Springs with Owens Creek, with a return via the same route or along the modern Parkway.
