About This Trail

Otter Creek Trail follows beautiful Otter Creek through the heart of the Otter Creek Wilderness in the Monongahela National Forest. The trail crosses the creek numerous times, requiring fording during higher water conditions, and passes through rich forest recovering from historic logging. The wilderness character provides excellent solitude, and the pristine stream supports native brook trout. Old railroad grades from logging days provide relatively easy walking through the narrow valley. The trail connects with numerous other routes for extended backpacking trips through this 20,000-acre wilderness. Spring wildflowers and fall foliage are particularly spectacular.
