About This Trail
Paint Creek Trail follows the beautiful Paint Creek through the Cherokee National Forest, passing through diverse forest communities and offering numerous opportunities for fishing and wildlife observation. The creek is named for the colorful minerals that tint the rocks and water in places, creating unique visual interest. The trail follows an old railroad grade for much of its length, making for easy walking through the narrow valley. Hemlocks and rhododendrons line the creek, while mixed hardwoods cover the surrounding slopes. This trail provides access to more remote areas of the forest and connects with several other trails for loop possibilities.
