About This Trail

Palisades Park in Oneonta provides easy access to dramatic cliff-top overlooks and interesting rock formations along a sandstone bluff line. The trail follows the cliff edge, passing numerous viewpoints that reveal forested valleys stretching toward the distant ridges of the Appalachian foothills. Rock formations along the bluff include overhanging ledges, small caves, and weathered sculptures shaped by millions of years of erosion. The park’s location within Oneonta city limits makes it remarkably accessible, while the natural scenery rivals more remote destinations. Spring wildflowers bloom along the cliff edges, and autumn brings spectacular color to the valleys below. This compact park delivers outsized scenic rewards for minimal hiking effort.
