About This Trail
This extension from the main Palmetto Island trail system ventures into cypress-dominated wetland where the character of the forest changes dramatically. Bald cypress and tupelo gum trees rise from standing water, their buttressed trunks and feathery foliage creating a distinctly Louisiana atmosphere. The shaded path offers a cool retreat on hot days.
Getting There
From the main Palmetto Island State Park trail, follow signs for the Cypress Trail extension at the junction near the bayou bridge. The trail loops through the cypress swamp before returning to the main path.
