About This Trail
This pleasant loop trail explores a subtropical Louisiana landscape where dense palmetto thickets meet moss-draped cypress swamps. The shaded path follows the contours of slow-moving bayous, offering frequent glimpses of wading birds, turtles, and the occasional alligator. Canoe rentals at the park allow visitors to extend their exploration onto the water, and the peaceful atmosphere makes this an ideal escape from the busier Cajun Country attractions.
Getting There
From Abbeville, take LA-82 south for approximately 15 miles toward the coast. Turn right onto Palmetto Island Road and continue 2 miles to the state park entrance. The trailhead is located near the park's boat launch area.
