About This Trail

Panola Mountain State Park protects one of the most pristine granite monadnocks in the Piedmont region, and the Fitness Trail offers an accessible introduction to this unique landscape. The paved loop circles the base of the protected mountain, passing through diverse forest habitats with periodic fitness stations for a combined nature and workout experience. While access to the mountain’s summit is restricted to ranger-led guided hikes to protect its fragile ecology, the Fitness Trail provides views of the granite dome and the rare plant communities it supports. The trail’s paved surface makes it accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and visitors of all abilities. Guided hikes to the mountain’s summit are offered on weekends and provide rare access to this ecological treasure.
