About This Trail

This trail explores the wild Pascagoula River swamp, one of the largest unimpeded river systems in the lower 48 states. Boardwalks carry hikers over dark swamp water where ancient tupelo and cypress trees create a cathedral-like canopy. Alligators, wading birds, and countless other creatures inhabit this pristine ecosystem, making wildlife encounters likely. The primeval atmosphere transports visitors to a Mississippi that existed long before human settlement.
