Raven Rock Trail
Sandstone cliffs with stunning Cheat River Canyon views.
About This Trail
Raven Rock Trail leads to a massive sandstone cliff overlooking the Cheat River Canyon at Coopers Rock State Forest. The trail descends through mixed hardwood forest to the base of the main overlook, then continues to additional viewpoints along the canyon rim. The namesake rock formation towers above the river, providing one of the most dramatic viewpoints in northern West Virginia. The Cheat River winds through the forested canyon nearly 1,200 feet below, and on clear days views extend for miles. Rock climbing is popular on the sandstone cliffs, and observing climbers adds interest to the hike. Fall foliage in the canyon creates spectacular scenery.
