About This Trail
Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve protects 1,038 acres of urban wilderness within Birmingham city limits, offering a remarkable outdoor escape in the heart of Alabama’s largest city. The trail system winds through forests reclaiming former iron ore mining sites, past historic quarries and mine shafts, and to overlooks with panoramic views of downtown Birmingham.
