About This Trail
Sal Hollow Trail traverses the backcountry of Mammoth Cave National Park, passing through diverse forest habitats and crossing numerous sinkholes characteristic of karst terrain. The trail follows the edge of a forested hollow, providing glimpses of the rolling hills and cedar glades that define the park’s surface landscape. Wildlife is abundant, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds. The trail connects with other backcountry routes for extended explorations of the park’s 80 miles of surface trails. This quiet trail sees far fewer visitors than the famous cave tours, offering solitude in a remarkable natural setting.
