About This Trail

Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge protects critical habitat for the endangered Mississippi sandhill crane, and several trails allow visitors to explore this unique coastal ecosystem. The paths wind through wet pine savannas, pitcher plant bogs, and along bayou margins where the rare cranes and many other species find sanctuary. Winter visits offer the best chances for crane sightings, though the refuge’s botanical diversity rewards visits any season.
