About This Trail

Sandy Creek Park near Athens provides extensive trails around beautiful Lake Chapman, with the Lakeside Trail offering the most scenic shoreline experience. The trail winds through pine and hardwood forest along the lake’s edge, with frequent views of the water and opportunities to spot herons, kingfishers, ospreys, and other waterbirds. Fishing piers and benches along the route provide pleasant rest stops, while connecting trails allow hikers to extend their journey through the park’s 782 acres. The relatively flat terrain makes this suitable for families and casual hikers, while the trail’s length provides a satisfying workout for those seeking more distance. The park also offers a beach, boat rental, and disc golf course for additional recreation options.
