About This Trail

Named for Falmouth-born Katharine Lee Bates who penned ‘America the Beautiful,’ this 10.7-mile paved rail trail runs from Woods Hole to North Falmouth. The only bikeway on Cape Cod alongside the sea, it passes salt marshes, barrier beaches, and open water views of Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay.

Getting There

From Falmouth village, head to the Depot Avenue trailhead just off Main Street for direct access to the Shining Sea Bikeway. Alternatively, park at the County Road lot in North Falmouth off Route 151.
