About This Trail

Stretching from the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna to the Alabama state line, the Silver Comet Trail follows the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad corridor through rolling Piedmont countryside. This paved rail-trail offers one of the longest continuous paved paths in the Southeast, passing through charming small towns, over historic trestles, and alongside pastoral farmland. The gentle grades—never exceeding 2%—make it accessible for all fitness levels, while the trail’s length allows for everything from short family walks to multi-day cycling adventures. At the state line, the trail connects with Alabama’s Chief Ladiga Trail, creating a combined 95-mile corridor. Rest stops with water and restrooms are spaced regularly along the route.
