About This Trail

Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve protects a vital wetland corridor in rapidly developing Southwest Florida, offering an elevated boardwalk journey through a primordial cypress swamp. The 1.2-mile boardwalk winds through bald cypress and pond cypress forests draped in Spanish moss, past alligators basking on logs, and through habitats where wood storks, great blue herons, and countless other wading birds hunt for fish. The slough serves as a critical wildlife corridor connecting inland areas to coastal ecosystems, and the diverse habitats support otters, deer, bobcats, and numerous reptiles. Interpretive signs explain the swamp’s ecology and the importance of wetland preservation. This accessible trail provides genuine Florida wilderness moments within Fort Myers city limits.
