About This Trail

Skidaway Island State Park offers a quintessential Georgia coastal hiking experience, with trails winding through maritime forest, past salt marshes teeming with wildlife, and along bluffs overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. The Big Ferry Trail and Sandpiper Trail combine to create a satisfying loop through diverse coastal habitats, from towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss to tidal creeks where fiddler crabs perform their synchronized displays. Observation towers provide excellent vantage points for bird watching, with opportunities to spot herons, egrets, ospreys, and during migration seasons, a variety of shorebirds and songbirds. The relatively flat terrain makes these trails accessible for most fitness levels, though summer heat and humidity can be intense.
