About This Trail

Slickrock Creek Trail follows one of the most beautiful streams in the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness, passing through old-growth forest and along crystal-clear waters. The trail crosses Slickrock Creek numerous times, requiring hikers to wade during higher water conditions. The wilderness protects some of the finest old-growth forest remaining in the eastern United States, with massive tulip poplars, hemlocks, and other trees reaching impressive dimensions. The remote character of this trail ensures solitude, and the pristine stream supports native brook trout. This challenging trail rewards dedicated hikers with a true wilderness experience.
