About This Trail

Stony Man Summit provides one of Shenandoah National Park’s most accessible mountain-top experiences, with a relatively easy trail leading to dramatic cliff-edge views from the park’s second-highest peak. The short hike climbs through forest to exposed rock outcrops where the Stony Man’s profile becomes visible—the cliffs forming a face that gives the mountain its name. The views extend across Page Valley to Massanutten Mountain and beyond, with the Shenandoah Valley spreading below. The trail’s gentle grades make this suitable for families and visitors seeking impressive scenery without strenuous effort. Sunset visits are particularly rewarding as the valley fills with golden light.
