About This Trail

Table Rock rises prominently above the Linville Gorge Wilderness, its distinctive flat summit one of the most recognizable landmarks in the North Carolina mountains. The trail climbs through hardwood forest before emerging at rocky outcrops with spectacular views into the gorge, across to Hawksbill Mountain, and over the surrounding ridges. The summit’s exposed rocks invite exploration and provide multiple vantage points for photography. The steepness of the final approach and the cliff-edge setting require caution but reward careful hikers with one of the region’s most dramatic viewpoints. This is a classic Western North Carolina hike that delivers genuine mountain grandeur.
