About This Trail
Trail A in the Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area offers surprisingly mountainous terrain for Louisiana, with steep ravines cut into ancient loess bluffs and seasonal waterfalls cascading over mossy rock faces. The forest here resembles Appalachian cove hardwoods more than typical Louisiana flatlands, creating a unique hiking experience. Fall brings spectacular foliage colors, while spring showcases wildflowers including rare species found nowhere else in the state.
Getting There
From St. Francisville, take LA-66 north approximately 6 miles. Turn left onto Tunica Trace Road and continue 4 miles to the Trail A parking area on the right, marked with a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries sign. The gravel parking lot accommodates about 10 vehicles.
