About This Trail

The Tuxachanie Trail is De Soto National Forest’s premier long-distance hiking route, following the grade of an old logging railroad through diverse habitats from pine-covered ridges to hardwood bottomlands and pitcher plant bogs. Boardwalks carry hikers over the wettest areas, while wildlife viewing opportunities abound throughout. The trail can be hiked as a challenging day trip or broken into segments using multiple access points. Spring wildflowers and fall colors provide seasonal highlights.
