About This Trail

Watauga Point Trail leads to one of the finest overlooks of Watauga Lake, offering spectacular views of the deep blue waters surrounded by forested mountains. The trail winds through mixed hardwood forest to a rocky promontory jutting out above the lake, providing panoramic views in multiple directions. This relatively short hike rewards visitors with big views for moderate effort, making it popular with families and photographers. The overlook is particularly stunning during fall foliage season when the surrounding mountains blaze with color reflected in the calm lake waters. Early morning visits often reveal mist rising from the lake surface, creating ethereal scenes.
