About This Trail
Watson Mill Bridge State Park preserves Georgia’s longest original-site covered bridge, a 229-foot span built in 1885 that creates one of the state’s most photographed landmarks. The nature trail follows the South Fork Broad River through mature hardwood forest, passing the picturesque bridge, the ruins of the old grist mill, and several scenic river overlooks. The gentle terrain makes this an ideal family hike, while the historic atmosphere and natural beauty appeal to visitors of all ages. The river’s rocky shoals and deep pools support diverse aquatic life, and the surrounding forest hosts abundant wildlife including deer, wild turkey, and numerous bird species. The covered bridge glows with warm light during golden hour, making this a favorite destination for photographers.
