About This Trail

At 26 miles, the Yockanookany Section is the longest developed hiking trail along the Natchez Trace Parkway, traversing a diverse landscape of hardwood forests, pine stands, and prairie remnants north of Jackson. The trail follows the historic Trace corridor, where countless travelers walked before, and interpretive features explain the human history of this ancient pathway. Day hikers can tackle segments using multiple access points, while backpackers enjoy the full wilderness experience.

Getting There

From Jackson, take the Natchez Trace Parkway north to milepost 115. Turn west onto MS-43 to reach the southern trailhead parking. Additional access points exist at Highway 43 and at the northern terminus near milepost 141.
