About This Trail
Bald River Falls Trail is a scenic 5.6-mile out-and-back hike in the Cherokee National Forest of Monroe County, Tennessee, beginning at the spectacular 100-foot Bald River Falls. The trail follows the beautiful Bald River upstream through a lush forest of hemlocks, rhododendrons, and hardwoods, with the sound of rushing water as a constant companion. Several primitive campsites along the route make this an excellent backpacking destination. The trail features numerous stream crossings and can be challenging after heavy rains. Hikers can arrange a shuttle by parking at Holly Flats for a one-way trek. Spring brings wildflowers and peak water flow at the falls, while autumn transforms the forest with spectacular colors. The combination of the impressive waterfall trailhead and the remote wilderness experience makes this one of the finest hikes in East Tennessee.
