About This Trail

An easy loop to the polished granite cascades and potholes of The Basin in Franconia Notch, where the Pemigewasset River has carved smooth bowls over thousands of years. The main pothole is 20 feet in diameter, making this an accessible geological wonder along the notch.

Getting There

From I-93 in Franconia Notch, park at The Basin on the northbound or southbound side of I-93, about 2 miles north of Exit 34A. Both sides are clearly signed. Use the pedestrian tunnel to access the Basin-Cascades Trail from the northbound lot.
