About This Trail

Walking through the birthplace of American paleontology, this park trail explores sulfur springs and salt licks where mammoths, mastodons, and saber-toothed cats once gathered during the Ice Age. A visitor center displays a 1,000-pound mastodon skull, and the site earned National Historic Landmark status in 2024.
