About This Trail

A rugged Catskills loop crossing Blackhead Mountain at 3,940 feet, one of the range’s highest summits. The trail features steep terrain with rocky scrambles and exposed ledges on the approaches. The loop connects Blackhead with the neighboring Black Dome and Thomas Cole peaks for ambitious hikers.

Getting There

From Catskill, NY, take Route 23A west to Tannersville, then continue to Elka Park via Platte Clove Road. The Blackhead Mountain Loop trailhead is at the end of Big Hollow Road with a parking area at coordinates N42 15.821 W74 10.594.
