About This Trail
Carters Lake Nature Trail is an easy 0.3-mile interpretive loop in the Carters Lake recreation area of Murray County, Georgia. This family-friendly trail features educational signs explaining the local ecology, including the diverse plant and animal life found in this part of the North Georgia mountains. The well-maintained path winds through a mixed forest of pines and hardwoods, offering opportunities to spot birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. The trail is accessible for visitors of all ages and fitness levels, making it an excellent introduction to the natural beauty of the area. Benches along the way provide spots to rest and observe nature. The trail is located near the Doll Mountain Recreation Area, where visitors can also enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing on beautiful Carters Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Georgia.
