About This Trail
Cloud Canyon West Rim Loop Trail is a spectacular 4.9-mile hike at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Dade County, Georgia, offering breathtaking views of three dramatic gorges carved into the western edge of Lookout Mountain. The trail follows the canyon rim, providing multiple overlooks where hikers can gaze into the thousand-foot deep chasms below. The path winds through a forest of mixed hardwoods, with mountain laurel and rhododendron providing seasonal blooms. Due to the trail’s proximity to steep cliff edges, close supervision of children is essential. The views are particularly stunning during autumn when the canyon walls blaze with fall colors, and in spring when waterfalls in the gorges run at full volume. This challenging loop rewards hikers with some of the most dramatic scenery in the Southeast and connects to other park trails for extended adventures.
