About This Trail
Rocktown Trail is a unique 1-mile out-and-back hike in Walker County, Georgia, leading to one of the most impressive rock formation areas in the Southeast. The trail reaches the first boulders at half a mile, and the formations grow progressively larger and more dramatic as you continue, culminating in a massive 65-foot tall standing rock. The sandstone formations were created by millions of years of erosion and provide endless opportunities for exploration, photography, and rock scrambling. The area is popular with rock climbers who come to practice on the various boulder problems. The surrounding forest of mixed hardwoods provides shade and seasonal color. The relatively short distance and easy grade make this accessible for families, though supervision is needed around the large rocks. This trail offers a geological adventure unlike any other in North Georgia.
