About This Trail

A pleasant stream corridor trail following the Black River through a gorge of mature hemlock and hardwood forest in Chester Township. The river tumbles over rocky cascades shaded by old-growth trees. A scenic, moderate walk in one of New Jersey’s most picturesque small state parks.

Getting There

From Chester, take Route 206 south to Route 24 West. Turn left onto State Park Road, then right onto Hacklebarney Road. The Hacklebarney State Park entrance is at 119 Hacklebarney Road, Long Valley.
