About This Trail
Lake Winfield Scott Trail is a peaceful 0.4-mile loop that encircles the scenic 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott in the Chattahoochee National Forest of Union County, Georgia. This easy, family-friendly path offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or nature observation. The well-maintained trail passes through a forest of hemlocks, rhododendrons, and hardwoods, providing shade during summer months. The lake is stocked with trout, and a fishing pier offers wheelchair-accessible angling opportunities. Spring wildflowers and autumn foliage add seasonal beauty to this already scenic area. The recreation area features picnic facilities, a swimming beach, and a campground for those wanting an extended visit. The trail connects to the Jarrard Gap Trail and Slaughter Creek Trail, allowing hikers to venture deeper into the national forest.
