About This Trail
Sosebee Cove Trail is a short but enchanting nature walk through one of North Georgia’s most pristine old-growth cove hardwood forests in Union County. This easy 0.3-mile loop showcases magnificent specimens of yellow poplar, buckeye, and other Appalachian hardwoods, some reaching impressive heights and girths. The trail is named for Arthur Woody, a beloved forest ranger known as the “Barefoot Ranger,” who protected this area from logging. In spring, the forest floor comes alive with trillium, bloodroot, and other wildflowers. Interpretive signs along the path explain the ecological significance of cove forests and the history of conservation in the region. This is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers.
