About This Trail
Lee Falls Trail is a challenging 1.5-mile out-and-back hike in Oconee County, South Carolina, following Tamassee Creek to a beautiful waterfall in the Sumter National Forest. The trail descends steeply through a lush forest of hemlocks, rhododendrons, and diverse hardwoods, with the sound of rushing water growing louder as you approach the falls. Lee Falls cascades approximately 40 feet over a rock face into a scenic pool below. The trail’s difficulty comes from the steep terrain and potentially slippery sections near the creek, requiring sturdy footwear and careful footing. The surrounding flora includes numerous fern species and spring wildflowers. The remote setting and moderate length make this a rewarding half-day adventure for hikers seeking waterfall beauty off the beaten path. The return climb is strenuous but manageable for those in reasonable fitness.
