About This Trail
Meeman-Shelby Woodland Trail is a 3-mile moderate hike at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park in Shelby County, Tennessee, winding along Riddick Creek and through the surrounding bluffs. This trail explores one of the most botanically diverse forests in western Tennessee, with an impressive variety of hardwood species and understory plants. Spring brings a profusion of wildflowers including trillium, mayapple, and jack-in-the-pulpit. The path follows the creek before climbing up and down the scenic bluffs, providing varied terrain and interesting perspectives on the bottomland forest ecosystem. The proximity to Memphis makes this an accessible escape into nature for urban residents. Wildlife is plentiful, with opportunities to observe deer, wild turkeys, and numerous bird species. The forest’s diversity reflects its location in the Mississippi River floodplain, where rich soils support exceptional plant communities.
