About This Trail

A 6.7-mile loop through Massachusetts’ largest state forest at 16,500 acres southeast of Pittsfield, passing swift-moving brooks and a swimmable lake. The remote, quiet middle section offers true Berkshire backcountry hiking through rolling hardwood forest and seasonal wetlands.

Getting There

From Lee, take Route 20 west, then turn left onto Route 102. Follow Route 102 for about 2 miles to the October Mountain State Forest entrance on the right. The Gorge Trail starts off Woodland Road north of the campground.
