About This Trail
South Plateau Loop Trail is a scenic 3.1-mile loop in Monte Sano State Park near Huntsville, Alabama, that explores the plateau atop Monte Sano Mountain. This moderate trail winds through a beautiful mixed hardwood forest featuring impressive rock formations, seasonal wildflowers, and diverse wildlife. The path traverses the edge of the mountain plateau, offering occasional glimpses through the trees of the valley below. The trail is popular with local hikers and runners, providing a good workout with moderate elevation changes. Spring brings blooming dogwoods and wildflowers, while autumn transforms the forest with spectacular fall colors. The loop connects with other park trails, allowing hikers to customize their adventure.
