About This Trail

A 5.4-mile out-and-back near Saranac Lake climbing 1,770 feet to a bald summit with spectacular 360-degree views of the High Peaks and the Saranac chain of lakes. The first half is gentle, but the final mile is relentlessly steep over rock stairs. A memorial plaque near the summit honors Walter Channing Rice, the “Hermit of Ampersand.”
