About This Trail

Climbing 750 feet through George Washington National Forest, this strenuous loop connects with Pine Mountain Trail for sweeping ridge views. Starting near Austin Cemetery off Almira Road, the trail challenges hikers with sustained uphill sections through dense Appalachian hardwood forest.

Getting There

From Harrisonburg, take Route 33 west to the WV border area. Turn south on Forest Road 924 toward Wolf Gap. The Austin Gap Loop trailhead is accessible from the Wolf Gap Recreation Area parking lot in George Washington National Forest.
