About This Trail

A section of the 53.5-mile Batona Trail, New Jersey’s longest hiking path, crossing 28 miles of Pine Barrens through Wharton State Forest. The pink-blazed trail traverses sandy roads, Atlantic white cedar swamps, and passes the Carranza Memorial. Mostly level terrain with some deep sand stretches.

Getting There

From Hammonton, take Route 206 south to the Atsion Recreation Area in Wharton State Forest. Park at the Atsion ranger station. The Batona Trail's Wharton segment continues south from the Atsion trailhead through the Pine Barrens.
