About This Trail

A rugged 10.5-mile corridor following the Big Carp River from its headwaters to where it empties into Lake Superior. The final 4 miles descend through a dramatic rocky gorge alongside the river. Multiple backcountry campsites and shelters line the route, making it a popular overnight trip in the Porcupine Mountains.

Getting There

From Ontonagon, take M-107 west to its end at the Lake of the Clouds Scenic Overlook in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. The Big Carp River Trail begins at the west end of the overlook parking area.
