About This Trail
Cumberland Knob Trail is a pleasant 0.5-mile loop that leads to one of the first recreation areas established along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. This easy trail winds through a beautiful mixed hardwood forest to Cumberland Knob, offering a peaceful introduction to the parkway’s natural beauty. The path is well-maintained and suitable for hikers of all skill levels, including families with children. At the top, visitors are rewarded with scenic views of the surrounding Appalachian landscape. The area holds historical significance as the site where construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway began in 1935. A visitor center and picnic facilities make this an excellent spot for a relaxing day trip.
